Countertops can be manufactured from many kinds of materials. Today’s most popular countertops are often pulled from the earth in forms of rock, stone or variations of these natural materials. Even wood and concrete component countertops come from the earth and are not the most eco-friendly options.

In Portland, we tend to do things differently. Recycling and reusing materials is just part of who we are in PDX. So building materials for new construction or renovations often get scrutinized to fit within our environmental values. In keeping with this tradition, Simple Floors Portland has committed to our eco-friendly and sustainable options for flooring and we’re stepping up further with our new green countertops made from recycled glass products. And they’re super cool!

Eco-Friendly Countertops

Our new Curava countertops take recycled glass countertops to an entirely new level of sustainability, durability and value. In fact, these eco-friendly counters contain 25 glass bottles per square foot, making an average Portland kitchen done with Curava countertops being comprised of recycling approximately 1,250 glass bottles that won’t just end up in a landfill, littering the streets or wasted in some other fashion. You see our new sustainable counters here in Portland use 100% of that glass used in the recycling and manufacturing process.

100% of the glass used in our glass countertops comes from recycled sources. The glass used to construct our counters is collected from landfills and other resources that are derived from post-consumer and post-industrial waste, which includes discarded glass bottles, windows, and surprisingly even windshield glass.

Sustainability?

As one of the most eco-friendly counter surfaces on the market they’re comprised of 100% recycled glass fragments within a resin binder. These countertops are manufactured using a variety of green and environmentally friendly methods, so they are manufactured during daytime hours only while using no artificial lighting in the factory and the manufacturing process ensures zero water waste, while consuming a minimal amount of electricity to produce each surface slab.

Our recycled glass counters have been tested and certified Food Safe by NSF, the public health and safety company and is also a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

Advantages Of Recycled Glass Countertops

When we researched all of the unique advantages of the Curava line of recycled glass countertops for our Portland customers, we found that there is no comparison to other recycled counters available up till now. That made it an easy decision to offer them to our environmentally conscious customers here at Simple Floors Portland. The main consideration of these countertops as compared with others is that they are resin-based, non-cement surfaces.

Here are some of the advantages of our new line of eco-friendly counters.

1-  Stain Resistant Countertops:  Our Curava countertops require no sealers or waxes due to their unique composition of glass and resin.

2- Low Maintenance Countertops:  Taking care of our recycled glass countertops is made simple, requiring no heavy chemicals. They are super easy to clean and maintain.

3- Hygienic Counters:  Due to the unique construction of our recycled counters, they are non-porous and sanitary. They don’t have millions of microscopic holes that can become a science experiment on your counter. Similar to quartz counters, since they are non-porous they do not need to be sealed and maintained to keep them sealed.

4- Highly Durable Countertops:  Using special materials and combining them in a unique process with glass, our sustainable countertops become extremely scratch and heat-resistant, making them the perfect surface for the environmentally responsible consumer.
