Replacing carpet with hardwood floors is a common way many people make dramatic updates to their home. Updating styling, color and warmth with hardwood flooring can make a significant impact on the look of an existing home. Additionally, hardwood flooring can improve the overall date appearance that a home reflects when carpet is replaced with a beautiful, purposefully selected wood floor.

We recently worked with a customer in the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego, Oregon to update their home flooring with wood instead of carpeting. Replacing their carpet with hardwood floors, we removed all of their existing carpet in the home and helped them select just the right wood floor type, style and color.

The flooring improvements made on this Portland area home is easily visualized in before and after pictures. It was important to the homeowner that the new wood floor color and style not only matched with the existing style and architecture of the home, but added to it. Without making additional or substantial renovations to the home outside of the updated hardwood flooring, we seamlessly integrated the homes current elegance, using carefully selected wood flooring that matched the homes current palette and style.

Portland Home Before Hardwood Floor Update

As you can see in these before pictures, the home had carpeting throughout. Though the homes current styling was luxurious, it was definitely in need of updating with wood floors.

Before Hardwood Floors1

You will notice the incredible wood ceilings and architecture of the home, as well as the matching custom woodwork. At the same time, these beautiful elements were not highlighted very well due to the somewhat neutral and drab carpeting that was used to go with it. In other words, the carpet did not work together with the homes existing woodwork to embellish the home design like wood flooring can.

Portland Home After New Hardwood Flooring Update

Attention to detail is so important when you are replacing carpet with hardwood flooring. Style, color and decor must all be considered, as well as the overall home design, trim and tone. All of these were taken into consideration as we replaced the carpet on this project with Johnson Hardwoods – English Pub – Moonshine Maple Hardwood Floors.

After Hardwood Flooring Upstairs

The visual impact that the new hardwood flooring made on the home is truly transformational. We were able to match existing fir beams and woodwork within the home with new wood floor Fir Risers on the steps (see below picture), which contrasted well with the flooring. At the same time, the color matching of the risers blended really well with the overall decor of the home, making this carpeting replacement with new hardwood flooring an incredible success!
